Default Lost Key - Need New Key - Help!

I have a 2000 GS300, and lost the master key. I now have ONLY a spare key. The dealer says that they cannot make another key without the master key, and they'll have to replace the computer in the car - very expensive. Is there another way to make a key?

Thanks a lot,
Ram

The master key is linked to the computer I dont believe there is another way. making a new master key even with the original is a process in itself

Thanks Donny for your reply. This is just too bad, that a lost key will end up costing about $2,000! I wonder if one can find a computer and keys from a junk yard?

Default Lost Key

Although not every dealer will tell you this, I found out from one dealer that Lexus provides, for free, the computer, a $1500 device. But, they require you to buy two master keys, in addition to installation labor charges, totaling to about $900. You must shop around. You can also call Lexus and ask the they provide a discount, as this was an "admitted" design flaw through 2003, and they changed the design in 2004, making it like other cars. Hope this helps.

This is one of those "It's not what you know, it's who you know" situations

I used to work for an auction. We had an automotive locksmith come out to reprogram the ECU's that the dealer says cannot be reprogrammed - and for a lot less $ than new ECU. He never encountereed a Lexus that he could not do. There are also sellers on ebay that do it by mail, but I would check feedback first.

You can easily get it programmed by any auto locksmith near, there is no need to worry about it.
