Default replacement key for rx330

I lost my RX330 remote key. I still have another working key at home.

Can I purchase an uncut Lexus RX330 master key remote from ebay and then get it cut and programmed? I assume that I need to get the dealer to program the key. Can locksmiths cut the key or do I need to get the dealer to cut it?

Question

Shorty,

I also have lost one of my master keys... did you ever get a reply to your post about how to get a replacement key and have it programmed?

I did some research. It appears that an inexpensive solution is to purchase an uncut Lexus RX330 key remote (which would go for around $50 on ebay). Prior to purchasing, I would find out if a local locksmith or a local Lexus dealer can cut the key (if you give them a master). The newer RX330 models require that you take the car to the dealer or locksmith that has Lexus key programming software (to program the key). Key cutting and key programming are two separate things.

You might find some info on this page useful:

Yes, key cutting and key programming both are separate things and before having any job done by an automotive locksmith. You should ask them how these things are going to be done.

You can talk to an automotive locksmith and they can explain you how the replacement and programming has been done.

Both dealer and locksmith can cut the key easily, the difference is only in their service charges.

You should consult with the dealership first and if you don't get enough response then think of getting the key programmed at a local auto locksmith store?
